Okahirongo Elephant Lodge

Immersed in the great wilderness of Kaokoland in Namibia sits Okahirongo Elephant Lodge, a magnificent camp on the banks of the Hoarusib riverbed. Reopened in April 2023 after an extensive refurb, this lodge comprises of seven suites, a two bedroom private villa with open lounge area, numerous social spaces and a spectacular infinity pool. The lodge blends seamlessly with the otherworldly terrain, ushering in dramatic views of rugged mountains, shifting sand dunes and curious rock formations.

This oasis is rendered in an organic architectural style that echoes the topography of the desertscape and makes fantastic use of local materials – think driftwood, clay and stone. Local customs and culture are referenced in the design, as seen in the striking dome roof, which is styled after a traditional Himba home.

The main lounge and dining room walls are open to evocative views, a perfectly peaceful setting for a delicious meal and fine wine after a day of adventure. The infinity pool has a practically infinite panorama over the mountains on the horizon and there’s a traditional boma, where you can gather around an evening fire for conversation or stargazing.
