Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

Livingstone is an historic colonial city and capital of the Southern Province of Zambia. It is also here that the immense Upper Zambezi suddenly drops around 100 metres into ‘the First Gorge’ where 550,000 cubic metres of water plummets over the edge every minute, transforming the Zambezi from a wide placid river to a ferocious torrent forming the world’s largest waterfall.

The awe-inspiring falls produce a constant roar and a cloud of brilliant spray, sometimes rising to 800 metres and visible up to 50 kilometres away – hence the local name for the falls and the surrounding national park – Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the Smoke that Thunders”.

If the falls alone aren’t enough to take your breath away, the park is also home to a rhino, antelope, zebra, giraffe, elephant, warthog and a variety of birds. Since there are no predators, wildlife here is very relaxed, making for amazing photo opportunities.
