- Queen of the Nile gets an elegant makeover -
One of National Geographic's “journeys of a lifetime” is about to become even more memorable. The Sanctuary Nile Adventurer is undergoing a dramatic makeover, returning to the water this September as the 21st century’s queen of the Nile. With just 32 cabins, this was always an exclusive ship. Now it will be a truly majestic setting for a journey along this epic river, visiting ancient temples on the way.
Elegant sophistication
As soon as you step aboard, you’ll notice the ship feels bright and inviting, with refined lighting that evokes the ‘golden hour’. Lovingly crafted Caravanserai lamps have ornate cutouts that cast a patterned glow, adding to the sensuous ambience. The serene colour scheme – calm azure, warm sandstone and hints of softly burnished gold and bronze – will enhance the sense of assured luxury. Patterned rugs, tiles and textiles are a respectful nod to over 7000 years of Egyptian culture.
Spacious and special
The newly refurbished cabins and suites will be havens of sophistication, with distinctive touches and tasteful fabrics, plus five-star amenities. Dramatic new feature walls and headboards with embedded lighting add a touch of glamour. The ‘standard’ cabins will be very special indeed, with brass pendant lamps, plush headboard and private bath.
The two Junior Suites are spacious havens, complete with a new ‘floating’ vanity and a private dining space. The palatial Presidential Suites have cinematic views from huge windows, private balconies, plus refined living areas. The King’s new four-poster is the epitome of graceful indulgence.
Savour the surroundings
The restaurant is having a complete reinvention, featuring a central decadent display for the award-winning chefs, with dramatic underlighting. Warmth abounds: burnished bronze tones, the soft glow of hammered copper, delicately patterned tiles inlaid in the walnut floor and carefully selected antiques. With stunning views, this will be the perfect setting for gourmet meals and the gala evening. Guests will even get an Egyptian cooking lesson, to savour the flavours when they’re back at home.
Stunning social spaces
The lounge will be poised for its close-up, with intricately patterned tiles on the feature walls and the dramatic new bar, tasteful new fabrics and rugs, and again, the warm glow of sensuous lighting. Pillars will be decorated in silver so that light dances across the surface – as it does on the river outside. What a delightful setting to reflect on the latest visit to a sacred temple, and the insights shared by the expert Egyptologist.
Privacy and pampering
The Sanctuary Nile Adventurer is an intimate ship, with cosy nooks for those seeking extra serenity. The calm and comfortable library will have carved wooden panels that lead into the brand new spa. Here, a floating four-poster will await, along with a soothing massage or luxuriant treatment.
Decked out in glory
Guests can relax on the vast sun deck as epic scenery glides past. After trips ashore to visit sacred sites, they can sip refreshing cocktails in a private cabana, or cool off in the glorious pool. The sun deck’s teak will be gleaming, the fabrics fresh and the sun loungers newly inviting – and there will be a brand new open-air gym.
