The Safe Water for Schools program in Tanzania will deliver clean water to every school that borders the Ngorongoro Crater in 2019.
The project will result in the provision of clean water to 15 schools benefiting 10,265 students and teachers.
Based on the success achieved in other parts of the world, Sanctuary Retreats has expanded the Safe Water for Schools Initiative to Tanzania – delivering LifeStraw® filters to schools in Arusha, Tarangire and Ngorongoro. In May 2019, Sanctuary Retreats distributed a total of 106 LifeStraw community filters to 15 schools. Additionally, a filter was also distributed to a health center in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which treats on average 1,000 patients a day.
The program brings the LifeStraw community filter, a high-volume water purifier designed to deliver safe drinking water, to communities in Tanzania. The filter’s hollow fiber purification technology converts contaminated water into safe drinking water by removing a minimum of 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.999% of viruses and 99.99% of protozoan parasites. It prevents waterborne diseases common in Africa, such as diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, worms, and cryptosporidiosis.
To date, together with our guests, 10,265 students and teachers now have access to safe drinking water.
